Local Development Framework

The main challenges and issues for the local development framework are about how former mining communities can be converted into thriving self-sufficient places that are attractive to live and work in. This cannot be achieved in isolation of the Local Strategic Partnership and other service providers will need to be engaged in the plan making process to ensure that locally distinctive and deliverable policies are formulated that reflect the needs of the community.
Meeting these ends will require a strong emphasis on:
- Economic and environmental regeneration as well as improvements in educational attainment and cultural facilities to facilitate the restructure of the economy and the housing markets.
- Promoting sites for housing and employment and opportunities for tourism
- The protection and enhancement of the natural and built environment
- The achievement of sustainable transport patterns that help to improve accessibility to jobs, services and facilities
- Improvements to the health and wellbeing of residents
Reducing deprivation and health inequality - Creating safer communities and reducing the fear of crime
