Council Departments
The Council's structure consists of five directorates that each includes a number of departments. These departments all work to the Corporate Plan which sets out measurable targets so our performance can be judged. The Directorates are listed below:
- Chief Executive's Directorate
Chief Executive OfficerWes Lumley
The Chief Executive is the principal adviser to the Authority and is responsible for its smooth running and co-ordination. It is a management and leadership role with statutory and non-statutory responsibilities. The Directorate comprises the
Chief Executive and Partnership Team,
Customer Service and Performance Department and
Human Resources and Payroll and the Joint Primary Care Trust (PCT) service.
Director of ResourcesJohn Brooks
This Directorate includes core
Financial and Revenue Services,
Shared Procurement Unit and
I.C.T. functions which underpin the delivery of services across the Council. These functions are therefore central to the achievement of the corporate objectives and delivery of quality services.
Solicitor to the Council & Monitoring OfficerSarah Sternberg
The Solicitor to the Council is also the Monitoring Officer who is responsible for advising the Council on the legality of its decisions, the conduct of councillors and officers. The Directorate consists of 2 departments,
Democratic Services and
Legal Services which, between them, are responsible for the following functions:
Legal advice, Committee administration, elections, liquor and other licensing, Land Charges and administrative support.
- Neighbourhoods Directorate
Director of NeighbourhoodsStuart Tomlinson
The Neighbourhoods Directorate is responsible for the majority of the Council's front line services including Leisure Services, Community and Street Services and Housing. The Directorate is responsible for the "liveability" agenda which strives to create cleaner, safer, greener and healthier communities.
Director of DevelopmentThe Development Directorate includes the core departments of Planning and Environmental Health, Regeneration and Shared Building Control and is responsible for driving the place-shaping of the district.
